A browser-based photo annotation tool built for medical and veterinary practice.
Calibrated grid, ruler, polygon area, angle, PASI, and chain-of-custody PDF —
every clinical tool, always available, in one editor.
What it does
SurgPathPic opens a photo in your browser and gives you the clinical annotation tools
consumer design software has never bothered to build:
Calibrated to real-world millimeters — two clicks of known distance and the
grid, ruler, and polygon area all read in real mm or cm.
Every tool, always — no specialty wizard or mode picker. Grid, ruler,
polygon area (mm²/cm²), angle (goniometer), PASI, outlines, arrows, shapes,
and labels are in the same editor every time.
Auto-numbered regions — click cells to mark cassettes, Mohs sections, wound
regions, burn zones — whatever your specialty calls them. Composite grouping and
per-cell color coding included.
Chain-of-custody PDF export for forensic, SANE, medical-examiner, ER
medico-legal, and other documentation that needs a signed, timestamped case file.
Branded exports with institutional logo and case header, in PNG and
multi-page PDF — full annotated map, clean photo with logo, or composite grid.
Same calibrated tools, animal-aware vocabulary — from cat masses to bovine necropsy to avian findings.

Teaching sets, case atlases, board prep, IRB-eligible documentation with consistent institutional branding across every export.
Privacy by architecture
SurgPathPic is built so that patient images never leave your computer. The
annotation, calibration, grid math, rendering, and export all run inside your browser.
We have no servers that touch your specimen photos because there is no need for any —
the work happens locally. The only information that reaches us is the small amount
required to operate accounts: your email and subscription status.
Read the full privacy policy for specifics, including what data
we do and don't collect, who our service providers are, and your rights.
Who builds SurgPathPic
SurgPathPic is an independent project built by Russ Dalziel for the medical and
veterinary community. It is not affiliated with any laboratory, hospital, or
commercial medical-imaging vendor.
If your institution's IT or compliance team needs information about how SurgPathPic
handles data before allowing access on your network, please share the
privacy policy with them. The short version: nothing flows
from your computer to ours except the email address you signed in with. No PHI
ever transits or is stored on SurgPathPic infrastructure.
